Overview
- Voting is underway nationwide with polling open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, and the first mesa was reported installed at 6:04 a.m. in Piura.
- The electoral body ONPE completed delivery of voting materials to 100% of locales before election day to ensure tables could be installed and voting could start on schedule.
- More than 57,700 police officers, about 41,000 military personnel and over 6,500 public prosecutors were deployed to protect voting sites, supervise compliance and respond to electoral crimes.
- The JNE reminded citizens that fines apply for not voting (S/110, S/55 or S/27.50 depending on district) and that members of mesa who fail to serve face a S/275 penalty while successful mesa members receive S/165 in compensation.
- After polls close, ONPE will release a flash count at 5:00 p.m. followed by progressive processing of actas and JNE review of observed results, a process that will decide hundreds of mayors and 25 regional governments for 2027–2030 and affect millions of first-time voters.
