Overview
- The ISA World Surfing Games, which began Saturday, brought 239 surfers from more than 50 countries to CAR Punta Rocas and Playa El Bosque for competition running through November 15.
- Organizers from the International Surfing Association, the Instituto Peruano del Deporte and FENTA used the inauguration and sand-ceremony ritual to validate event operations as a formal Lima 2027 Test Event.
- The championship will award one Olympic quota to the highest-ranked national team in the men's classification and one to the highest-ranked national team in the women's classification, making team placement decisive for Los Angeles 2028 spots.
- Team Perú fields six athletes — Catalina Zariquiey, Miguel Tudela, Alonso Correa, Sol Aguirre, Lucca Mesinas and Daniella Rosas — and Miguel Tudela won his first-round heat, with Mesinas and Correa also advancing in early rounds.
- The field includes multiple Olympic medalists and World Championship-caliber surfers, and ISA leaders praised Punta Rocas and CAR infrastructure as world-class, a boost for Peru’s bid to host major events and for local athlete development.
