Peru Opens Admissions to 25 COAR and Announces 2,000-Place Beca COAR

The initiative links elite public high schools to promised university support with scholarship rules still unpublished.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Education opened applications for the 25 Colegios de Alto Rendimiento with 2,698 places available and a deadline of November 24 for submissions.
  • Selection follows a two-stage process with a cognitive test set for December 13 and a socioemotional evaluation scheduled for January 13–16, 2027.
  • At a ceremony in COAR Lima on Thursday the government announced the new Beca COAR offering 2,000 scholarships for COAR graduates and handed out 6,500 laptops to students.
  • The scholarship program’s eligibility rules, application timeline and partner universities have not been published, so implementation remains a developing policy item.
  • Admission rules include specific eligibility limits (top-10 class rank or regional contest winners, age capped at 15 by March 31, 2027, nationality or documentation, parental consent) plus bonifications for poverty, rurality, disability and native-language speakers and ten national seats reserved for PRED beneficiaries.
