- The Peruvian Navy’s Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN) issued an Aviso Especial warning that anomalous swells will reach the coast starting Thursday, Aug. 27 and are expected to peak to moderate intensity on Friday, Aug. 28.
- DHN provided a zone-by-zone schedule that shows the north and central sectors beginning with light swells on the night of Aug. 27, increasing to moderate the night of Aug. 28, and easing from Aug. 29, with similar timing for center‑south and southern sectors.
- The DHN defines oleaje ligero as wave heights up to about 50% above normal and oleaje moderado as roughly double normal heights, which raises the risk of stronger surf and coastal runup.
- Emergency agencies including Indeci and the COEN urged preventive steps such as suspending fishing and port activities, hauling or securing small craft ashore, avoiding exposure on open and semi-open southwest-facing beaches, and following local authority orders.
- DHN, COEN and local authorities will keep monitoring sea and atmospheric conditions through Aug. 31 and the alert could be updated if tidal amplification from the lunar phase or changing sea conditions increase hazards to ports, fishers and beach communities.
