Overview
- The IGP reported a magnitude 4.1 quake at 07:22 local time on Dec. 30, 73 km west of Chimbote at 48 km depth, rated intensity III and without tsunami alerts.
- The same day, a magnitude 4.4 event struck near Curimaná, Ucayali, at 11:11 local time at 119 km depth, with no significant damage or casualties reported.
- Defense Civil authorities and the national operations center COEN remain on continuous monitoring and have issued prevention guidance to residents.
- The Dec. 27 magnitude 6.0 quake near Chimbote caused injuries and structural damage in the north, with La Libertad reporting nine injured and about a dozen buildings affected.
- Ingemmet flagged four critical geological-hazard zones in La Libertad, and the IGP says Peru recorded over 800 quakes in 2025 as it prepares early-warning system tests for 2026.
