Overview
- The Navy held the christening and botadura of the B.A.P. Talara on Saturday, August 8, 2026, putting the new auxiliary logistics ship to sea.
- The Talara measures 58.9 meters with a 13.2 meter beam, displaces about 1,646 tons, reaches roughly 10 knots, carries vehicles and up to 21 containers, and has a deck for helicopter operations.
- The Defense Ministry says the ship will move humanitarian aid, heavy machinery, potable water and specialized personnel to coastal areas affected by floods and landslides during El Niño.
- Construction took place at SIMA Perú under a coproduction scheme with Hyundai Heavy Industries that includes detailed engineering, modular fabrication and technology-transfer training for Peruvian workers.
