Peru Launches 33-Day PIAS Mission to Restore State Services in Putumayo

The interagency river flotilla signals a renewed push to reestablish the state’s presence for remote Amazonian communities.

Overview

  • Social Development Minister Lesly Shica Seguil led the departure from the Manuel Clavero Naval Base in Iquitos of PIAS Napo, Morona, Putumayo I, Putumayo II and the BAP Yahuas.
  • The vessels will cover more than 100 points along the Putumayo basin over 33 days, aiming to reach about 17,000 residents in roughly 600 indigenous communities.
  • Midis projects more than 160,000 services during this campaign, restoring in-person access after months of reduced state presence in the area.
  • Teams from Reniec, EsSalud, Minsa, Banco de la Nación and Programa Juntos will deliver general medicine, dentistry, obstetrics, lab work, SIS affiliation, DNI updates, socioeconomic classification and financial services, supported by indigenous-language interpreters.
  • Midis reports 2025 goals have already been surpassed through September with 124,760 users and 1,773,772 cumulative services, and the minister also inspected the School Feeding Service during her Loreto visit.
