Peru Inflation Eases as Government Launches 'Perú Exporta Industria' to Boost Manufacturing

Authorities pair easing prices with a targeted push to strengthen exporting small manufacturers.

Overview

  • New-vehicle prices fell 1.01% in October, bringing a 3.40% drop year to date and a 4.29% decline over 12 months, according to INEI data cited by the AAP.
  • Lima’s CPI decreased 0.10% in October with inflation at 1.15% for the first ten months and 1.35% annually, while the national index slipped 0.07%.
  • Vehicle fuel prices continued to ease, with vehicular LPG down 2.2%, gasohol 1.4% and diesel 0.8%, reflecting lower international oil prices.
  • Mincetur launched the Perú Exporta Industria program and opened a call for 60 mipyme beneficiaries in Lima, La Libertad, Arequipa and Junín.
  • The program offers training, technical assistance and commercial intelligence in coordination with Produce, PromPerú, Inacal, ProInnóvate and Indecopi, targeting a sector that exported US$4.707 billion in Jan–Sep through 4,400 firms, as the AAP projects only a mild year-end inflation pickup and no additional BCRP rate cuts this year.
