Overview
- President Keiko Fujimori inaugurated the shore power system at DP World’s Muelle Sur on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, officials confirmed the first ship connection and launched a marcha blanca trial operation.
- The shore power equipment lets berthed vessels plug into the terminal’s electricity supply so they can shut off auxiliary engines, which cuts fuel use, local noise and emissions while ships are docked.
- DP World and regulator filings put the project cost at about US$2.5 million and estimate annual CO₂ savings near 8,680 tonnes from the new onshore power link.
- The terminal, renamed Muelle Bicentenario after expansion, handles roughly 60–70% of Callao’s container traffic and can serve up to three 400‑metre vessels at once, making the upgrade central to port competitiveness.
- The system received technical conformity from the MTC in April 2025 and officials say the deployment — a technology found in about 3% of world ports — aims to attract further private investment and improve export logistics while easing pollution for nearby communities.
