Peru Fast-Tracks 2026 Vote: JNE Enters Permanent Session as New Law Expands Candidate Affiliation Window

Expanded workdays with swift reglamentation target bottlenecks in candidate registration.

Overview

  • Law Nº 32536 exceptionally allows candidacies from citizens who affiliated between October 8, 2024 and October 7, 2025, and also from those who join between October 8, 2025 and January 7, 2026 provided they had no active affiliation on October 8, 2025.
  • The law orders the JNE, ONPE and RENIEC to regulate and adjust procedures immediately to apply the expanded affiliation window.
  • By Resolution Nº 0821-2025-JNE, the JNE declared itself in permanent session and activated weekend and holiday workdays, including December 26–28, 2025 and January 2–4, 10–11 and 17, 2026.
  • The JNE directed its General Management to keep institutional services running, including the filing desk, to sustain uninterrupted processing during key deadlines.
  • The JNE reports 1,748 lists and 36 presidential tickets submitted via Declara+, with party plans published on its Platform and candidacies under technical and legal review toward final certifications due by March 14, 2026.
