Peru Extends Tisur’s Matarani Port Concession to 2059, Unlocking US$700 Million Upgrade

The signed addendum clears the way for phased works starting in 2027 under a US$700 million plan.

Overview

  • The National Port Authority, on behalf of the Transport Ministry, signed Addendum No. 5 to extend the Matarani concession to 2059 and authorize US$700 million in investments.
  • Tisur will move immediately to sign detailed engineering contracts and advance environmental permitting through 2026 to prepare for main works.
  • The expansion centers on a new multipurpose pier and additional breakwaters, along with a minerals warehouse, a container yard, modernization of Muelle ABC, and new equipment.
  • Three mobile port cranes—two with 80‑ton capacity and one with 100‑ton capacity—will be purchased now, with about ten months of manufacturing before delivery.
  • Major construction is slated to start in 2027 and finish key elements by late 2029, with roughly half the investment executed before 2029 to lower occupancy from around 70% toward 40–50% and reduce costly vessel delays.
