Overview
- The Executive, which published Decrees 063-2026-PCM and 064-2026-PCM in El Peruano on Thursday, extended the emergency for 60 days in selected districts.
- The order covers parts of Piura including Piura, Castilla, Veintiséis de Octubre, Catacaos, Sullana, Bellavista, Paita and Talara, and VRAEM zones in Ayacucho, Cusco and Junín such as Anco, Ayna, Kimbiri and Pangoa.
- The National Police keeps control of internal order with Armed Forces support, using intelligence, crime data and maps to focus raids, patrols and checkpoints.
- The decrees require respect for fundamental rights and existing rules on use of force, and they carry the signatures of President José María Balcázar, Prime Minister Luis Enrique Arroyo Sánchez and the defense, interior and justice ministers.
- Residents should expect tighter controls on movement and gatherings under Peru’s constitutional emergency powers, which can speed operations against drug trafficking and hired killings but also heighten police and military presence in daily life.
