Peru Expands High-Level Security Commission to Include Judiciary, Prosecutors and Telecom and Financial Agencies

The government says the move will close the gap between police operations and legal follow-through to secure punishments and disrupt criminal networks.

Overview

  • Prime Minister Luis Galarreta announced on Tuesday that he will summon the president of the Judiciary, Janet Tello, and the Attorney General, Tomás Gálvez, to meet inside the Comisión Multisectorial de Alto Nivel para Recuperar la Seguridad y el Orden Público.
  • Galarreta said the commission will formally invite Osiptel, the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) and private telephone companies to provide technical help on communications and data needed to dismantle organized crime.
  • Officials framed the expansion as a response to recent operations such as the Comando Unificado Pataz in La Libertad and said the goal is to make sure arrests translate into lawful sanctions so detained suspects do not quickly return to the streets.
  • The government expects the strategy’s results to consolidate progressively and called for coordinated action across police, armed forces, prosecution, and the courts to recover the state’s authority over public order.
  • Separately, Partido Cívico Obras announced a nationwide party reorganization signed by Ricardo Belmont and Daniel Barragán that will subsume pending leadership updates and set new timelines and rules for provincial and district committees.
