Peru Enters Spring With Coastal Warmth, Extreme UV in Ica and Friaje in the Amazon

Senamhi warns of sharp daytime–nighttime swings that call for layers with SPF 50+.

Overview

  • Spring began on 22 September at 1:19 p.m. and runs through 21 December, according to Senamhi.
  • Daytime temperatures on the coast, including Lima, are rising through 26 September due to a weaker South Pacific Anticyclone and northerly winds that reduce midday cloud.
  • In Lima, coastal districts are forecast near 21 °C with inland highs around 25 °C, while Ica is expected to reach 31–34 °C between 23 and 25 September.
  • UV levels this season range from moderate to extremely high, with Nasca, Palpa and Ica flagged for extreme exposure and health agencies advising SPF 50+ reapplied every three hours.
  • An active friaje from 22 to 25 September is bringing rain, electrical discharges and gusty winds to the Amazon, as seasonal outlooks point to largely normal coastal conditions and above-normal spring rains in parts of the southern highlands.
