Peru Ends Virtual Passport Appointments Starting June 1

Migraciones frames the change as a modernization measure intended to simplify passport access.

Overview

  • The Superintendencia Nacional de Migraciones announced on May 27 that, beginning Monday June 1, electronic passport requests will be processed in person by strict order of arrival rather than by prior virtual appointment.
  • The agency will run a three-day operational pilot called “Fase Final de Implementación: Pasaporte sin cita virtual” from May 28 to May 30 to test logistics and office capacity before the nationwide switch.
  • Applicants must present a valid, well-preserved DNI, show proof of payment of the S/120.90 issuance fee, and have no outstanding electoral fines to be served under the new system.
  • Migraciones published payment channels for the fee including Banco de la Nación, Págalo.pe and in-office options using Yape or POS terminals, and it urged users to arrive early and meet requirements to avoid delays.
  • The change removes the virtual booking barrier but service will vary by local office because attention depends on each site’s operating hours and maximum capacity, which could create longer waits in busier locations.
