Overview
- The JEE de Lima Centro ruled that Lima Mayor Rafael López Aliaga breached electoral neutrality by posting municipal content featuring his name in Renovación Popular’s signature blue and by sharing a video that displayed the party logo with an X.
- The resolution orders referrals of the López Aliaga case to the Ministerio Público, the Contraloría General and the Lima Municipal Council, and notifies the municipal integrity office over the use of public resources.
- In a separate finding, the JEE concluded that a Sept. 19 statement issued from the PCM’s official account contained elements that would favor Fuerza Popular despite not naming any party.
- Premier Eduardo Arana rejected the JEE’s position, asserting the PCM message did not reference any political organization and saying the government guarantees broad participation in the April 12, 2026 elections.
- The JEE warned that administrative fines of 30 to 100 UIT could apply in case of recurrence, and both matters remain subject to appeal to the Jurado Nacional de Elecciones.
