Peru Destroys 557 Illegal Slot Machines in Nine-Region Crackdown

Officials say the public destruction advances a nationwide push to curb unlicensed gambling, protecting minors.

Overview

  • Mincetur dismantled and destroyed 557 seized slot machines in operations spanning Lima, Áncash, Cajamarca, Huánuco, Loreto, Arequipa, Pasco, San Martín and Junín.
  • Of the total, 359 were taken from unauthorized halls, while 198 were linked to venues that allowed or attracted minors.
  • The operation was led by Viceminister of Tourism Aracelly Laca Ramos through Mincetur’s Directorate General for Casino Games and Slot Machines.
  • Officials said the equipment, valued at more than US$1 million, was seized from hard‑to‑access areas including Secocha and Caballococha where oversight is weak.
  • Mincetur cites ongoing enforcement under Law No. 27153, reporting four clandestine slot halls closed and eight illegal betting venues temporarily shuttered in 2025, with owners subject to prosecution under Penal Code article 243‑C.
