Overview
- Public-sector workers were granted the compensable day off Monday, July 27, 2026, by Decreto Supremo N.° 075-2026-PCM published in El Peruano.
- The decree explicitly does not make July 27 a national feriado and keeps the date as a working day for legal and tax purposes.
- State employees must recover hours not worked within ten days or on a schedule set by their institution, so the day off is compensable rather than paid as a holiday.
- Private employers are not obliged to grant the day and may decide how the workday is handled if no agreement with staff is reached, while essential services will continue operating normally.
- The government says the step is designed to stimulate internal tourism and spending over the July 25–29 period and could raise demand for transport, hotels and restaurants during Fiestas Patrias.
