Peru Declares Jan. 2 Public-Sector Non-Working Day as Argentina Sets 2026 Tourism Bridge Days

The measures use compensable non-working designations to lengthen breaks, aiming to boost domestic tourism.

Overview

  • Peru’s Supreme Decree No. 042-2025-PCM makes Friday, January 2, 2026 a compensable non-working day for public employees, distinct from a national holiday.
  • Public-sector hours not worked on January 2 must be recovered later, and each entity will set its own compensation schedule.
  • Private employers in Peru may adopt the January 2 pause by agreement with workers, since the measure is not mandatory for the private sector.
  • Argentina’s Cabinet Resolution 164/2025 confirms three 2026 tourism non-working days: March 23, July 10 and December 7, to create extended weekends.
  • Local measures create a patchwork in Argentina, including a January 2 administrative asueto for Tucumán’s provincial administration, a December 30 local day in San Vicente, and a January 7 non-working day for Banco Provincia staff in Tres Picos, Tornquist.
