Peru Data Watchdog Refers 'Infidelity Registry' Website to Prosecutors Over Pay-to-Delete Scheme

Officials verified more than 10,000 unvetted reports that expose personal data, with removals conditioned on S/3 via Yape.

Overview

  • The National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data confirmed a December 3 verification of the site, which allows anyone to upload names, demographics, locations, testimonies and PDFs without validation.
  • The platform charges S/3 through a QR-linked Yape wallet to delete entries and uses a WhatsApp number for coordination, a practice the agency says could constitute extortion and unlawful data processing.
  • The authority will inform the Public Prosecutor’s Office of potential criminal conduct so that responsibilities can be determined.
  • Officials urged people not to submit or share third-party data, not to pay for removals, and to report possible cybercrimes under Law 30096, offering guidance via protegetusdatos@minjus.gob.pe.
  • The site’s search tool enables checks on whether someone appears in the list, and sharing such content may amount to digital violence, with similar lists reported on TikTok and Telegram.
