Peru Creates National Technological University in Ventanilla With 30 Degree Programs

The law promises to expand local access to higher education pending budget transfers and regulatory approvals needed to start operations.

Overview

  • The Executive published Law No. 32626 on Friday, formally creating the Universidad Nacional Tecnológica Pachacútec de Ventanilla (UNTEPV) and specifying its legal status and initial structure.
  • UNTEPV will launch with 30 professional degrees organized into five faculties: Health Sciences; Engineering and Architecture; Law and Social Sciences; Economic Sciences; and Transport and Communications Engineering.
  • The statute lists specific flagship programs such as Medicina Humana and Ingeniería de Inteligencia Artificial and requires that departments, research units and graduate programs be set when the university’s academic regime is approved.
  • The law makes UNTEPV a pliego presupuestal and authorizes the Ministry of Economy and Finance to transfer funds charged to the Ministry of Education, while also allowing revenue from fees, donations, canon funds and local government support.
  • Although the law creates the institution on paper, operational opening depends on administrative steps including formal academic-regime approval, MEF/MINEDU budget transfers and national quality and licensing procedures before classes can begin.
