Peru Confirms Jan. 2 Public-Sector Non-Working Day as Argentina Observes Dec. 31 Asueto and Tucumán Adds Jan. 2

The measures chiefly affect public employees, with Argentine bank branches closed on Dec. 31 and private workplaces operating only where specifically agreed.

Overview

  • Peru’s Supreme Decree 042-2025-PCM designates Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 as a compensable non-working day for public-sector staff, while Thursday, Jan. 1 remains a paid national holiday.
  • Peru did not declare Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 a holiday or non-working day, so activities proceed normally unless an employer decides otherwise.
  • Argentina’s national government set an administrative asueto for public employees on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, with essential services maintaining guard shifts and reduced schedules.
  • The BCRA confirmed no in-branch banking on Dec. 31; digital channels, ATMs and cards operate, banks also close on the Jan. 1 holiday and resume in-person service on Friday, Jan. 2.
  • Tucumán decreed asueto for its provincial public administration on Friday, Jan. 2 (and Dec. 31), which does not bind the private sector, and a separate local resolution makes Thursday, Jan. 8 non-working only for Banco Provincia staff in Carlos Casares.
