Peru, China Sign Protocols Opening Market for Fresh Bananas and Pomegranates

The pact concludes years of sanitary reviews by both countries, signaling a shift to certification and inspection steps before trade starts.

Overview

  • The accords were signed by Peru’s agriculture minister Vladimir Cuno Salcedo and China’s customs minister Sun Meijun in a bilateral ceremony that also produced a sanitary cooperation memorandum.
  • The approval follows years of joint evaluations between Peru’s Senasa and the General Administration of Customs of China to align phytosanitary requirements.
  • Exporters must now secure certification and pass inspections before the first commercial shipments can depart for China.
