Peru Bars Passenger Buses From Serpentín de Pasamayo Through 2027

A technical risk assessment prompted rerouting via the Variante de Pasamayo with continuous controls by police alongside Sutran.

Overview

  • The order was published December 21 in El Peruano as Resolution No. 031-2025-MTC/18 and takes effect January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027 with round-the-clock application.
  • Categories M2 and M3—buses and minibuses used for passenger transport—are prohibited from using the route for the duration of the measure.
  • The restricted section spans km 44 to 75 of the Panamericana Norte on the PE-1NA corridor known as the Serpentín de Pasamayo.
  • Bus itineraries are automatically rerouted to the Variante de Pasamayo (PE-1N) while the restriction remains in force.
  • Police in coordination with Sutran will operate checkpoints as the transport ministry installs signage, with the policy under permanent evaluation for possible adjustments.
