Peru Authorizes Pension Contributions Via Digital Wallets and Mobile Channels

The SBS approved new rules to let affiliates use popular payment apps to pay AFP contributions while imposing strict controls on fund handling and personal data.

Overview

  • The Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP formalized the change on Wednesday, September 23 through Resolución SBS Nº 02326-2026, and the rule takes effect Thursday, September 24.
  • The resolution lets AFP contributions be made through digital wallets, mobile apps, correspondent cashiers and other virtual channels once providers are authorized and sign agreements with AFPs.
  • The measure creates a new category of intermediary institutions that must register or be authorized under national payments rules and enter convenios with AFPs to collect and transmit contributions.
  • Operational obligations require AFPs to track the full route of funds, reconcile payments, correct errors and handle incidents, and intermediaries must deposit collections no later than the second business day after collection.
  • The rule bars use of affiliates’ personal data without express consent, requires AFPs to compensate any fees so members receive the full amount paid, and was prepared in coordination with the Central Reserve Bank under the pension modernization law.
