Peru Authorizes North-Center Anchoveta Season With Provisional 500,000-Tonne Quota Starting Nov. 7

Fresh IMARPE survey results will determine a science-based final limit next week.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Production set a provisional LMTCP of 500,000 tonnes via Ministerial Resolution No. 00368-2025-PRODUCE for anchoveta and anchoveta blanca in the North-Center zone.
  • Fishing is cleared to begin at 00:00 on Friday, November 7, within waters from Peru’s northern maritime boundary to 16°00’S.
  • IMARPE’s Operación EUREKA LXXVII, scheduled for November 4–6, will deliver updated biomass and oceanographic data to support a subsequent resolution establishing the definitive quota.
  • IMARPE reports thermal anomalies, wind shifts and intrusions of saltier subtropical surface waters that lowered observed biomass in the North-Center while the South is 231% above its historical average.
  • The resolution embeds conservation and operational conditions, and Vice Minister Jesús Barrientos says the move lets the industrial fleet finalize nominations with predictability before the final limit is issued.
