Peru, Argentina and Mexico Issue Fresh Weather Alerts for Winds, Zonda and Developing Pacific System

Authorities warn of reduced visibility, temperature whiplash, flooding risk driven by coastal winds, Zonda episodes, a Pacific low.

Overview

  • Peru’s Senamhi placed Lima and nine coastal departments under an orange alert through Oct. 6 for southerly winds near 38 km/h with low fog, cloudiness, drizzle and dust that can sharply cut visibility.
  • Argentina’s SMN issued yellow and orange alerts this weekend, with central provinces forecast to see 40–80 mm of rain, frequent lightning, hail and wind gusts that may exceed 90 km/h.
  • Mendoza faces a yellow alert for Zonda winds that could reach about 50 km/h locally before a marked temperature drop on Sunday, with potential frost in productive valleys by Monday.
  • Mexico’s Conagua/SMN is monitoring a low‑pressure area near Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán with high probability of cyclogenesis, bringing very heavy coastal rains, strong winds and elevated waves.
  • Frente Frío No. 5 is driving colder air and gusts up to roughly 60 km/h in the northwest and north of Mexico while contributing to widespread heavy rainfall, as agencies urge standard storm and travel precautions.
