Peru Announces Plan to Raise Minimum Wage to S/1,300

The Labor Ministry says technical studies through the National Labor Council will set the implementation timetable within an estimated 60 to 90 days.

Overview

  • President Keiko Fujimori announced in her inaugural message that the government will raise the Remuneración Mínima Vital from S/1,130 to S/1,300.
  • Labor Minister Juan Sheput said the Executive will activate the Consejo Nacional del Trabajo to present the increase with supporting technical reports to employer and union representatives.
  • Sheput estimated the formal process of studies and CNT sessions could take 60 to 90 days and said its start depends on appointing MTPE vice ministers and clearing current administrative delays.
  • The MTPE says the increase will be accompanied by a technical study and complementary measures, including a one‑time compensatory boost for micro and small firms, to reduce business impact.
  • No official implementation date has been published yet, and the ministry says a final decision could come by November if CNT meetings begin soon, with the new wage possibly taking effect late 2026 or on January 1, 2027.
