Overview
- An expanded quarantine covering the entire Perth metropolitan area takes effect Friday, dividing the city into an inner management zone and an outer containment zone.
- Movement of host material out of the quarantine area is prohibited, and movement within the area is discouraged to protect regional and horticultural districts.
- In the management zone, landowners are now responsible for deciding and paying for pruning or removing infested trees, while DPIRD will prioritise removals in the containment zone.
- DPIRD is establishing a Capacity Building and Training team led by Dr Mia Carbon to deliver advice, workshops and integrated pest management training for homeowners, councils and industry.
- The WA government has allocated $2.5 million to support council tree work and $2.17 million for research, and previously scheduled removals from the eradication phase can still proceed at no cost.
