Overview

• Andover Fire Rescue reported extricating a trapped occupant from a heavily damaged vehicle, who was flown to a Boston-area hospital with no condition released.
• MBTA instituted shuttle buses between Lawrence and Ballardvale around midday, then said at 1:37 p.m. that normal Haverhill Line service had resumed with residual delays.
• Andover police said the freight train must be towed, and warned the Essex and Pearson crossings could remain closed into the early evening.
• The collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. at the Essex Street grade crossing just south of Andover station, where a freight train was seen stopped beside a wrecked Lexus sedan.
• Fire officials addressed a fuel leak from one of the train’s fuel tanks caused by the crash and said they cleared their response around 1 p.m., as the investigation continues.
