Perry County Man Charged in Wife’s Shooting After Domestic Dispute

He is held without bail pending a Sept. 23 preliminary hearing.

Overview

  • Pennsylvania State Police say Douglas Snyder, 56, called 911 around 10:30 a.m. Monday to report a shooting at his Rye Township home.
  • Troopers entered the 1400 block of New Valley Road residence and found Samantha Fields, 38, dead with gunshot wounds just inside the front door.
  • Court documents quote Snyder first saying, "I guess I shot her by accident," before later telling investigators he "snapped" after she threw a book during an argument.
  • The affidavit states Snyder left his son in the home with Fields’ body for about 13 hours before contacting authorities.
  • Snyder faces counts of criminal homicide and endangering the welfare of children, is jailed in Perry County without bail, and has a Sept. 23 hearing before Magisterial District Judge Tracy Powell.
