Overview
- Perplexity announced Teammates on Nov. 5 as always-on, role-based AI agents that can own and advance ongoing work without requiring a new prompt for every task.
- Each Teammate carries over a user’s Perplexity Computer projects, skills, memory and tools and appears as a persistent thread in the app so users can monitor and redirect work.
- Teammates can collaborate with other agents and send follow-ups in Slack, and Perplexity says agents run their own desktop and browser sessions using the user’s plugins and permissions.
- The feature is available now on the web to individual Max subscribers at $200 per month with a promotional free period, and Perplexity says native mobile and desktop clients and broader rollouts are coming soon.
- The launch places Perplexity directly against OpenAI’s Dots and Anthropic’s Duet and raises practical questions for workplaces about cost, permission controls and how much human oversight is needed when agents act on connected accounts.
