PEOT Takes Control of Olmos Irrigation as Concession Ends

The takeover begins a transition constrained by pending environmental approval for dredging.

Overview

  • CTO/Novonor formally handed over the Presa Limón and Túnel Trasandino on September 25, with PEOT assuming operation and maintenance on September 26.
  • PEOT received S/45 million from the Ministry of Economy and Finance to fund staffing and immediate operations and is retaining experienced personnel from the former operator for continuity.
  • PEOT plans to start dredging Presa Limón in December but cannot invite bids until the Ministry of Environment approves a submitted technical report, and officials stress this dredging is only a temporary measure ahead of a future reservoir raising.
  • Farmers in the Valle Viejo de Olmos are pressing for a firm schedule, noting the reservoir is operating at roughly 70% capacity and that dredging could take about seven months.
  • ProInversión is commissioning baseline studies now, expects those documents by late October, and projects awarding a new concessionaire by late 2026 or early 2027.
