Overview

  • The PPP confirmed on August 7 that Kim Moon-soo, Jang Dong-hyeok, Cho Kyoung-tae and Ahn Cheol-soo advanced to the final vote after a mixed primary.
  • The preliminary primary combined equal weights of dues-paying member ballots and a nationwide public opinion poll to narrow 12 candidates down to four.
  • The final leadership vote is scheduled for August 20–22 with an 80 percent party member and 20 percent public poll weighting and a runoff if no contender secures a majority.
  • Kim Moon-soo and Jang Dong-hyeok, both opposed to Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment, have rallied support for the former president’s return and broader conservative unity.
  • Ahn Cheol-soo and Cho Kyoung-tae, who backed Yoon’s impeachment, are campaigning on internal reform and distancing the party from far-right influences.
