Pensioners With Back Pain May Qualify for Up to £441 Every Four Weeks in Support

Official data count 1.7 million recipients of the tax-free payment, with arthritis most common and tens of thousands claiming for back pain.

Overview

  • Attendance Allowance and Scotland’s Pension Age Disability Payment are worth £72.65 or £108.55 a week, paid every four weeks as £295.60 or £441.40.
  • DWP figures show nearly 484,000 claims are for arthritis and 74,804 people over 66 receive support for back pain.
  • The benefit is not means-tested, is exempt from the Benefit Cap, is tax-free, and does not affect the State Pension.
  • Eligibility applies if help or supervision is needed during the day or at night for at least six months, even if no one currently provides that help.
  • Claims use a detailed form, with help available from Citizens Advice; in Scotland, new claims are made for PADP via Social Security Scotland, with advocacy from VoiceAbility.
