Pennsylvania Woman Held Without Bail After Four Infants’ Remains Found in Home

Forensic results remain pending with a preliminary hearing set for Sept. 30.

Overview

  • Jessica Marie Mauthe, 39, is charged with criminal homicide, involuntary manslaughter, four counts of concealing the death of a child, and four counts of abuse of a corpse.
  • Her landlord reported discovering a decomposing infant in a bedroom closet during a Sept. 13 cleanout after an August eviction, and troopers later found three more infants’ remains in attic totes wrapped in towels and plastic bags.
  • Court records show District Judge J. Gary Decomo denied bail, and Mauthe is being held at the Armstrong County Jail.
  • Autopsies conducted at the Indiana County Coroner’s Office prompted prosecutors to withdraw and refile charges as toxicology and final reports are still in progress.
  • According to an arrest affidavit, Mauthe told investigators she delivered the babies over six years and described incidents in which newborns stopped breathing; authorities are continuing interviews and seeking tips through the Pennsylvania State Police in Kittanning.
