Pennsylvania Woman Charged With Homicide After Four Infants’ Remains Found in Evicted Home

Investigators say a landlord’s 911 call during a post-eviction cleanout led to a search that recovered the infants from a closet and an attic.

Overview

  • Jessica Marie Mauthe, 39, faces one count each of criminal homicide and involuntary manslaughter, plus four counts each of concealing the death of a child and abuse of a corpse, and is held without bail at the Armstrong County Jail.
  • Landlord Brent Flanigan found a decomposing infant on Sept. 13 in a trash bag in a bedroom closet while clearing the Cadogan Township rental after an Aug. 14 eviction and an Aug. 30 lock change.
  • State police say three additional sets of remains were located in attic tote bags, with the infants wrapped in towels and placed inside plastic bags, according to the arrest affidavit.
  • The affidavit states Mauthe told investigators she delivered one baby about a year ago that made noises before she held it until it stopped breathing, and another about six years ago after which she passed out and later found the child unresponsive.
  • A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next week as investigators review medical records and interview associates, and authorities say her two living sons are now with extended family.
