Pennsylvania Turnpike Switches On First NEVI-Funded Fast Chargers at Blue Mountain

The opening kicks off a TurnpikeApplegreen buildout targeting 80 universal stations across 17 plazas by 2027.

Overview

  • PennDOT said the Blue Mountain Service Plaza site is now operational, with a NEVI-funded station at New Stanton expected to open next week.
  • Each new Turnpike location delivers DC fast charging across four ports and supports all EV models without adapters.
  • The Turnpike also activated chargers at North Somerset, South Somerset, and Hickory Run using Pennsylvania DEP’s Driving PA Forward funds.
  • PennDOT’s Corridor Connections funding round is accepting proposals from Dec. 22 through Jan. 30, 2026 to expand coverage beyond designated corridors.
  • State officials note USDOT has withheld some EV funds, and Pennsylvania—joined by other states—won a legal challenge credited with keeping NEVI projects moving.
