Overview
- PennDOT says the Blue Mountain Service Plaza (Exit 202 westbound) is now live, with a second NEVI site at New Stanton (Exit 77 westbound) expected to open next week.
- The chargers are funded through the federal NEVI program, which can cover up to 80% of project costs; Blue Mountain’s installation exceeded $1 million with $750,000 from NEVI, according to officials.
- Each Turnpike site is designed with four high-speed ports that work with all EV models without adapters to reduce wait times and compatibility hurdles.
- The Turnpike has already added DEP-funded fast chargers at the North Somerset, South Somerset and Hickory Run plazas under the Driving PA Forward program.
- PennDOT has opened its Corridor Connections funding window from Dec. 22 through Jan. 30, 2026 to back additional highway charging locations beyond designated alternative fuel corridors.
