Pennsylvania Electric Supply Rates Reset Dec. 1, With Increases for Most Utilities

The commission urges early outreach for bill help, including careful supplier shopping.

Overview

  • PUC-listed residential Price to Compare changes take effect Dec. 1, raising default generation charges for many customers and lowering them for a few utilities.
  • Notable increases include Met-Ed (about 9%), PPL Electric (about 3.7%–4%), PECO (6%), Duquesne Light (10.6%) and West Penn Power (6%).
  • Wellsboro Electric and UGI Electric will see decreases of roughly 6% and 2.25%, respectively, while Citizens' Electric shows no change pending further notice.
  • Most utilities will also adjust small-business default rates, with FirstEnergy territories showing increases between 6.5% and 13.8%, according to the PUC.
  • The PTC typically represents 40%–60% of a bill; customers under fixed supply contracts keep their contract rate, and the PUC directs consumers to PAPowerSwitch.com and its Bureau of Consumer Services (1-800-692-7380) for help, while a separate PPL distribution-rate request remains under review with hearings next month and a possible July 1, 2026 effective date if approved.
