Penn State Retains Special Teams Coordinator Justin Lustig for Matt Campbell’s Staff

The holdover provides continuity for a unit credited with an 89-game no–special-teams-touchdown streak, including five blocks in 2025.

Overview

  • Lustig’s return was first reported by Daniel Gallen of 247Sports and later detailed by PennLive.
  • Hired before the 2024 season from Vanderbilt, Lustig oversaw a group that tied for the national lead with five blocked kicks in 2025, including three by Dani Dennis-Sutton.
  • Performance pillars included punter Gabriel Nwosu’s field-flipping leg and kicker Ryan Barker’s 30-for-34 accuracy with perfection inside 40 yards.
  • Lustig has also handled defensive duties at Penn State, working with nickels and outside linebackers and helping develop cornerbacks Zion Tracy and Kenny Woseley Jr.
  • Yahoo Sports noted he was viewed as a possible departure to join James Franklin at Virginia Tech, and with his return plus D’Anton Lynn set to run the defense, coordinator posts are effectively filled while several position roles remain open.
