Pemex to Slash Over 3,000 Trust Positions as Unions Demand Talks
The technicians’ union UNTyPP has formally asked director Víctor Rodríguez Padilla to review its contested personal services provisions in the new strategic plan.
Overview
- Under the Plan Estratégico 2025–2035, Pemex will eliminate 3,051 trust posts to save roughly 3.5 billion pesos and reduce 29 percent of related personnel costs.
- An internal Pemex document also seeks to cut nearly 9.96 billion pesos in personal services through salary freezes, platform pay changes and indirect-cost controls.
- UNTyPP has rejected the cuts and salary containment measures, warning that 70 to 80 percent of the eliminated positions will come from technical and professional staff misclassified as “confianza.”
- The union has requested a formal dialogue with director Víctor Rodríguez Padilla to reassess the disputed personnel section of the strategic overhaul.
- The Sindicato de Trabajadores Petroleros de la República Mexicana has postponed a threatened strike to August 31 to continue negotiations on the 2025–2027 collective labor contract.
