Peloton Recalls 833,000 Original Bike+ Units Over Seat Post Break Risk

Owners are instructed to stop riding pending delivery of a free CPSC‑approved replacement seat post.

Overview

  • The voluntary recall covers Original Series Bike+ model PL02 with serial numbers starting with “T,” manufactured in 2019–2022 and sold from 2020 through April 2025 in the U.S. and Canada.
  • About 833,000 units were sold in the U.S. and roughly 44,800 in Canada after three reports of seat posts breaking during use in the U.S., including two fall injuries; no incidents were reported in Canada.
  • Regulators and Peloton advise users to identify affected bikes via the serial number inside or behind the front fork or behind the flywheel, stop use, and request a free, redesigned seat post that is self‑installable.
  • This action follows Peloton’s May 2023 recall of approximately 2.2 million base Bike units for a similar seat‑post failure, with the company saying newer bikes feature a redesigned post.
  • The bikes, which retailed around $2,495 at Peloton showrooms and retailers such as Dick’s, Amazon and eBay, drew renewed market scrutiny as Peloton shares fell about 6% after the announcement.
