Peloton Recalls 833,000 Bike+ Machines Over Seat Post Break Risk

Regulators cite seat-post failures that caused falls, with Peloton offering a free redesigned post that owners can install at home.

Overview

  • The voluntary recall targets Original Series Bike+ units (model PL02) with serial numbers beginning with “T,” manufactured in Taiwan from 2019 to 2022 and sold from January 2020 through April 2025.
  • Peloton and the CPSC report three seat-post breakages, including two fall injuries, and instruct owners to stop using affected bikes until repaired.
  • Peloton will provide a no-cost replacement seat post for self-installation, and bikes produced since mid-2023 as well as the new Cross Training Bike+ series are not included.
  • About 833,000 bikes are affected in the U.S., plus roughly 44,800 in Canada, where no incidents have been reported to date.
  • The move follows a 2023 recall of about 2.2 million base Bike units over similar defects, and Peloton’s shares fell roughly 6% after Thursday’s announcement.
