Peel Police Enforce Temporary Injunction at Mississauga's Ridgeway Plaza

A court order has imposed roadblocks, security posts, signage at Ridgeway Plaza to prevent unsanctioned Independence Day gatherings

Overview

  • The Ontario Superior Court issued the injunction on Aug. 13 for enforcement from noon Aug. 13–2 a.m. Aug. 15 and noon Aug. 19–2 a.m. Aug. 20, mandating gate arms, blocked access on Platinum and Odyssey drives, and crowd control measures
  • Peel Regional Police are on-site with powers to close the plaza, restrict nearby streets, remove non-compliant individuals and make arrests for injunction breaches
  • City officials sought the legal measure after two years of repeated disturbances at the plaza, including gatherings of over 3,000 people, street racing, fights and illegal fireworks
  • Local residents have welcomed the enhanced controls as relief from persistent noise, traffic disruptions and safety hazards that voluntary compliance failed to resolve
  • Property managers have declined comment and the city warns that contempt proceedings or further injunctions could follow if the order is not fully observed
