Pedestrian Killed by Crude Bomb Hurled From Dhaka Flyover

Police opened an investigation in Moghbazar during a surge of violence linked to the shooting of activist Sharif Osman Hadi.

Overview

  • Unidentified assailants threw a crude bomb from the Moghbazar flyover at around 7 pm, striking a 21-year-old named Saiful and killing him on the spot.
  • Hatirjheel police cordoned off the area and began a probe to identify those responsible and determine a motive.
  • Inspector Md Mohiuddin confirmed the fatality, and a tea-stall owner described a sudden blast before seeing Saiful collapse with severe head injuries.
  • The attack follows weeks of unrest after the December 12 shooting and later death of July uprising organiser Sharif Osman Hadi.
  • Recent violence has included assaults on media and cultural sites and the lynching of Hindu man Dipu Chandra Das, which drew protests in India as Dhaka’s leaders dispute claims of targeted communal campaigns.
