Overview
- Version 1.40.a is live, introducing the Roots biome as a temporary replacement for Tropics until November 17, after which daily maps will feature either Roots or Tropics at random.
- The update adds 11 badges with cosmetic rewards, with challenges that include low-spore climbs, testing all five Shroomberry types in one run, and long-distance rescues using the new Rescue Claw.
- New gear spans biome-specific items—Shroomberries, Fortified Milk, Cloud Fungus, Bounce Fungus—and global spawns like the Rescue Claw, Checkpoint Flag, and the Book of Bones.
- A cooking overhaul makes many non-food items useful when cooked, removes extra stamina from cooked non-foods, and makes cooked poisonous berries safe while leaving mushrooms hazardous.
- Quality-of-life changes include eight new emotes, the ability to join via Steam without the game open, and fixes for reconnect, inventory/status duplication, and end-of-run issues, as outlets report more than 50,000 players returning.
