Overview

  • PCMC demolished 96 unauthorized huts spanning roughly 46,000 square feet along a 250-metre stretch in Wakad’s Kalakhadak slum to start the 45-metre road widening project.
  • The operation was overseen by Commissioner Shekhar Singh with senior officials from encroachment, town planning, slum rehabilitation and urban transport departments on site.
  • Heavy machinery—including one Poclain, seven JCBs and four dumpers—and a 15-member labor team carried out the evictions and crews began work immediately.
  • Electric poles, water pipelines and other utilities are being moved to clear the path and prevent delays during the expansion.
  • Officials say the project will ease traffic toward Bhumkar Chowk, Hinjewadi, Thergaon and Pimpri and that similar clearance drives will be rolled out in other municipal zones.
