PCB Seeks ICC Contingency as Afghanistan's November Tri-Series Visit Looks Unlikely

Talks on a January T20 tour of Sri Lanka risk colliding with Big Bash commitments after Pakistan suspended players' NOCs.

Overview

  • The PCB has asked the ICC to prepare alternate plans for the November 17–29 T20 tri-series after indications that Afghanistan are highly unlikely to travel to Pakistan.
  • Sri Lanka have been invited to play three T20Is in Pakistan between November 11 and 15 as lead‑in fixtures to the proposed tri-series.
  • Pakistan and Sri Lanka are discussing three T20Is in Colombo in early January 2026, with tentative dates of January 8, 10 and 12 under review.
  • Cricket Australia has contacted the PCB after the post–Asia Cup suspension of overseas NOCs, with Big Bash teams having signed Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and others for the December 14–January 25 tournament.
  • If the Sri Lanka series is confirmed for January, selectors may proceed without several marquee players or the PCB may adjust release periods, a move that could strain agreements with Cricket Australia and franchise plans.
