Overview
- Reports on Wednesday said Paytm is preparing to offer AI agents to banks, lenders and insurance companies in India and the UAE as a new enterprise product line.
- The service is built on a low-cost, low-latency model of roughly 4 billion parameters that Paytm says it developed over about two years and trained on its transaction and customer behaviour data.
- Paytm has already deployed the technology internally, with systems handling more than 10 million customer queries a month and cutting annual customer-support costs by over $11 million.
- The company is testing the product with a limited set of customers, plans to hire about 4,000 staff to scale the effort, and expects to report meaningful AI revenue under its Commerce Cloud within about a year.
- The move responds to thin margins in payments and follows rival fintechs building foundation models and agent systems, a shift that could change how banks and insurers automate sales, support and back-office work.
